Sir George Simpson’s St. Albert

“Sir George Simpson’s (St. Albert) involvement with Breakfast for Learning began several years ago.  Our goal as a staff was to provide a healthy school environment with the physical activity and healthy food selections for our students.  With the assistance of Breakfast for Learning, we started to provide fresh nutritious food for students who were in need.  This was done by inviting two young adults from the Transitions program and their worker to shop and prepare food for needy students.  Fruit and vegetable plates as well as whole wheat submarine sandwiches were provided for our students.

What began as a project for a few students has now expanded to providing healthy alternatives for the entire school.  We now have students from the senior opportunity class and the Knowledge and Employability program preparing nutritious food for our students and staff.

This shift in service has been well received by students, staff and community.  From the inception of Breakfast for Learning, we have evolved to healthy choices”.
